Internship overview
I had a wonderful opportunity to intern with Last Mile, a team that creates experiences for Amazon businesses so that they can deliver packages.
Throughout my internship, I designed a mobile experience in augmented reality (AR) for the people you see driving around in Amazon Prime vehicles.
My role
As a UX Design Intern on the team, I worked closely with an SDE intern at the beginning of my internship where I created, wrote, and delivered design specifications to develop an early stage prototype.
I also conducted in-person usability test sessions with Amazon interns to validate the prototype that I designed to ensure that I’m on the right track with my design solutions.
My impact
01
Facilitated discussions on how AR can be a technology to keep delivery drivers safe on the road.
Throughout my meetings with internal stakeholders, I facilitated discussions on the possibilities of AR and expanded perspectives on what could be possible with the technology.
02
Established communication between engineering and design.
I scheduled frequent meetings between engineering and design and learned how to balance ideation and technical feasibility.
What did I learn?

Embrace ambiguity
I balanced innovation and technical feasibility in my project. By doing this, I visualized where my ideas fit within the team and understood how my ideas could shape the experience of delivery drivers.

✋🏼

Provide context to non-designers
I learned the importance of putting together visuals and slide decks as well as writing down topics to remove the barrier between designers and non-designers.
Big thank-you to my manager, mentors, and fellow interns for making my first internship memorable.
I learned to not be afraid of being playful and imaginative in my ideation process, but to also make sure that I ground my ideas in research and data. I grew to be confident in my presentation skills, research driven in my ideation process, and to constantly seek new perspectives – I am so incredibly grateful to have worked with the Last Mile team!
